We Hiked a British Military Base in Cyprus - A Drone Hit It the Next Day
Plays from YouTube when you click.
Hiking to the highest point of the Akrotiri peninsula, Cyprus, walking the edge of a British Sovereign Base Area most people don't realise is there until a fence and a soldier show up.
This video follows the actual route: gravel trail, open hillside, fields of yellow flowers, right up until the perimeter fence. We got stopped near the checkpoint, crossed an active police cordon without noticing until it was too late, and found a spent shell casing sitting on the trail. Not the version of Cyprus hiking most travel videos show you.
If you're after a Cyprus hiking trail that's more than a scenic walk, or you're curious what's actually behind the fences on the Akrotiri Sovereign Base Area, this is that video. The terrain itself is easy, gravel path, open fields, no technical difficulty. It's what's around it that makes this one different.
One more thing worth knowing: this was filmed the day before a Shahed-type drone hit the base.
